The Bible is an incredible book of history that proves God’s greatness in all things. From instructions on how to live righteously to an understanding of God’s will for our lives, the Bible fully equips us to do every good work.

Moreover, it’s often hard to sit down and meditate on God’s word, especially with the numerous responsibilities that fight for our attention every day. But while life can indeed get in the way, it is still crucial for Christians to remember the benefits of reading the scripture regularly.

Here are 10 reasons why engaging in Bible study, either alone or with fellow believers, is highly important for your spiritual growth.

It reminds us that we need other people

God created us to be relational and social beings who need a community to thrive in. Meditating on His word alongside fellow believers can help us fully appreciate the work God is doing throughout the church, form meaningful friendships, and most importantly, lean on other believers for spiritual and moral support.

It helps us discern what is right and what is wrong

When we are unfamiliar with the truth of God’s word, we are easy prey for the enemy and false teachers. However, staying rooted in God’s word trains us in righteousness, and helps us understand and rebuke that which is false. This is an essential benefit of engaging in Bible study for anyone who wants to grow in their Christ-likeness.

It is totally sufficient for all of our needs

When it comes to getting spiritual guidance, we really don’t need anything else in life except the Bible. In 2 Timothy 3:16-17 it reads “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” As Christians, we can become secure in the Lord by studying the Bible and understanding His divine plan for our lives.

Growing spiritually through regular and meaningful personal Bible study is vital. As Paul summed up: “This is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ—to the glory and praise of God” (Philippians 1:9-11).
